Music related thoughts

Thanks Khai Chi for inviting us :)

Just back from Queen Symphony presented by Uni of Newcastle Wind Orchestra for their 30th birthday celebration. It brings back a lot of sweet memories, the scenes of us practicing for the concert, the rehearsals and everything we did for the performances kept flashing through my mind throughout the whole concert. Unforgettable. When was the last time I sat at the audience seat? The instruments that I played, the songs that we performed, the very few solos that I was happy with, the moment we strived together with everyone having the same target.

Listening to the oboe, always, it makes me a little regret for not mastering it and I know I didn't put in effort to learn when I had the chance. I had very little limited memories with oboe, only a few years and very occasionally.

Listening to the clarinet, I know I don't play well but this is the instrument that accompany me the most after piano. I'm considered weak in clarinet, and frankly get even low confidence when I'm playing in PSO. But there's one very memorable for me when Mr Woon said good for my solo during a rehearsal. It's just once, it's just a bar length. I don't even remember which concert rehearsal was that, I don't even remember the song's title, and perhaps it seems to be very common to everybody else, but a small little compliment weighed so much to me and I remember it until today.

Listening to the bass clarinet, the only moment I remember the most is the solo of 童梦 together with piccolo played by Liyin at the very intro of the song. The depth, the flow, the melody is carved deep in my mind.

I used to be the one sitting on the stage with my clarinet, a short tuning before the concert starts, waiting for the conductor, follow the flow of the music, counting beats deep down in my heart where I've tens bars of pause, indulging in the mood of the music with the dynamic changes, ending perfectly with everyone. Tonight I was in the audience seat, looking at the back of the conductor with him conducting the flow of the whole orchestra, and the performers were just like me in the memories, it's the just the switching of role tonight.

I used to be one of the performers dress up in black suits, holding my own clarinet,  chit-chatting with friends, waiting at the backstage. But tonight looking at the performers bringing their instruments to the backstage in suits, or holding their instruments outside the hall during the interval, how I wish I were one of them where I used to be the one like them instead of an audience tonight. The feeling is very different, a very complicated one.

I miss both JSPO, PSO and the people.

Sometimes I do really feel envious of those who choose to master in music, having to play their own instrument so well. Their profession, their enthusiasm. I enjoy playing on the stage, enjoy performing with a big group, enjoy every single moment performing to the audience. The applause, the cheers, the grand feeling, the self-satisfaction matters the most.

So why am I studying accounting and finance now?

Missing 端午节

One of the bad thing away from home -

I don't know it's 端午节 today! I don't know it's Dragon Boat Festival today! I don't know this is the day I shall have lots of bak zhang and ki zhang to eat!

Pathetic.

This is the time I hate the most to be not at home while I am so lost and I didn't even know it. I only came to realise it when I see the bak zhang photos in Facebook, my friends made it here. And, six more minutes to the end of the day of 端午节.

Last year my mom stored 2 bak zhang and 10 ki zhang for me in the freezer till the day I went home for the winter holiday, 21 June.

This year I don't even know when is the festival, not to say I have the chance to eat.

Sigh.

How many more festivals that I'm going to miss out? Despite Mother's Day, Father's Day and my family's birthdays which are fairly important to me, the next one I'm going to miss terribly is definitely the Mooncake Festival. You might say I'm just longing for the festive food. Partly it's, partly it isn't. It's the home feeling that I am looking forward to.

The feeling of lost isn't good, it's so bad.

That's why I hate to leave home, that's why I don't have the enthusiasm to apply for PR here, that's why I know I'm someone very homie, that's why I know I'm going home after all.

Oh My Safety!

Recently we have been told that there were race attacks cases in Newy. We actually heard quite a few cases last year but seems that it's getting more serious lately. A Korean student was robbed on campus at knifepoint, students get attacked at bus stop after groceries shopping,  get screamed by the unknowns from their cars such as "go back to your country!"and some other verbally assaults along the street......

It's even worse for now that there were robberies and attacks cases on campus! When this news is spread, we are somehow thrilled and frightened that we international students (particularly Asians!?) are more likely to be their targets. Apparently the attacks cases has alarmed the uni that we received a studentmail with the uni security and NSW police emergency number. Perhaps I should save the numbers too but too bad I guess with a touch screen phone I can't efficiently speed dial it in emergency? At least I should save the numbers under favourites, or maybe I should train myself to be more familiar with the 'locations' of the numbers, hmmm.

Watch this - a news online reporting on the student attacks in our uni! I burst into laugh where "students have to walk in the bush land like this." Lol, yea bush land!

And I just joined a Facebook group under University Of Newcastle Students Against Campus Assaults.

Scary eih, Newy? ;)

I'm not free, I'm just boring.

Finally my mom has received the Mother's Day card after a week. I know it's pretty because it's a DIY card by me. :) For this 21 years, I've never bought a ready made card for Mother's day, Father's day or their birthdays. Although the cards bought in store would be definitely much more decent looking than my own piece of art work, I still love to give them my handmade one. If there's one day I buy them cards, I hope that doesn't mean that I'm less sincere than before. I'm the same and the only Joe, as always. :)

I hate the time when I feel like eating. When the devil kicks in my mind no matter how much I've stuffed in, I hate my brain for not sending signals to my hand to stay away from snacks, I hate when there is no signals to my mouth from stop munching, I hate when my brain doesn't know that I should stop craving. I think this is a sickness.

I brought over this cute pinky bolster, a birthday gift on my seventeen by Xuan, Honghui, Yinyin, Kekmin, Jiuntze and Boonyang. :) I don't know where's the nose/mouth anyway, it's a hole that left. Heheee..

Hua knocked into my room just now holding a packet of Cookies n' Cream Tim Tam, caught me taking a nap on my table with the pink bolster. It is still early, 8.30pm. I am so sleepy and I've nothing in my mind. I wanted to rest but I don't wanna go to bed so early. Few more hours to my sleeping time, I don't know what should I do now. :( :( :(

Weekend that just passed.

The past weekend has been an extreme to me, never did I feel that exhausted here in this Aussie land. The 3-day weekend was a marathon with never ending activities and for once I felt that I was so worn out, never could I imagine myself overloaded with fun and joy that I somehow barely able to cope with the pace, in this land. Good one.

With Bee came all the way from Canberra as a birthday surprise for Cien at 12am, the feeling... was so good and so warm. Very spontaneously we planned a revisit to Port Stephens on Saturday - the big day for Cien & Pung - in which, we would have to wake up at 7.30am. A roughly 4-hour sleep is so worthy after all, with the perfect weather that warmed us.

Not to forget, for the first time I had a supper at 2am, Hungry Jacks served our sudden crave. :S

Without much rest after coming back from Port Stephens, birthday celebrations for the two birthday girls at night started! All girls with only a guy, Jim is always the special one among us, perhaps he could be our sister one day. ;)

And again, being the flexible one, we went down to Sydney again. We are getting more and more spontaneous nowadays! We reached Sydney at 2pm and had a lunch with Gee for indo food, the ayam bakar was so nice, omg! We only spent 4 hours in Sydney and after Bee left to catch the bus back to Canberra at 6pm, we left.

Love Triangle @ Passion Flower

People who loves me, serve me with irresistible desserts, it's so easy to make me happy! My happiness can last for days, kid you not! I'm seriously in love with those yummilicious and pretttttty desserts. ;)

I'm worn out for the weekend, but it is the laughters and cheers that count, makes me feel better.

People, it's weekend again!

It's weekend again.

Although you may say it's just something very simple that you can make it your own at home, I'm still fond of breakfasts dining out. Although you may say it doesn't worth spending so much on toasts with eggs, bacon and mushrooms, I'm still giving away my notes. But well I know that's my parents' money instead of my own, I believe they understand it. :) I'm just helping with the economy, people.

I came to realise that Affogato is so good. Topping one shot of Espresso with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream, with the chocolate flakes adds to perfection, it is changing my perception of coffee!

This weekend is gonna be fun! :D

Life and its pathway.

It was Khai Chi's birthday yesterday, a girl who pursues a degree in solo piano. She always claims to be so suffering in practicing piano, which I could understand so well. The pain, the suffer, the hatred, the frustration, the pissing off, I came across all the transition stages that leads to pride and satisfaction which is indescribable. :)

Life has been so happening recently. I have so much in my mind but I don't think I could turn them into words. I could just blabber every single thing out without a second thought and I choose not to, to save whatever it saves. I'm glad that I could overcome the challenge and it wakes me up too, for what and how I am despite who I am. It is somehow shocking to discover stuffs that I would never expect and completely out of my mind but take it as a challenge and regard it as a mental training, I crowned myself as a winner because I learnt, I overcame and I matured. Whose life is completely out of obstacles? Neither me. Or maybe, I need some colours infused to make me stay alert and be wise, and so when my history is colourised, I know I've grown up little by little.

I am not being sarcastic but I am thankful to be given a chance of familiarising myself. I am still young enough to be carved and painted, with the strength and wisdom I have, I will never doubt my ability. Purely because I'm a member of Ch'ng's family. =)

Because I Miss...

Looking at the recently launched mouth watering express value meals, I know Sake Room definitely tops my Food-I-Miss list.
If I am home, with two consecutive Tues-Sat probably I could finish trying every value meal for my lunch (except for the beef which is definitely a big no no for me) and no take away dishes from the economic rice stall, if I don't follow my parents to office.  Fyi, if I follow my parents to office, oh oh.. claypot crab with rice, steamed stingray, garlic steamed clams...... Normally lunch is the reason why I follow my parents to the office. *Giggles*

And the most important is I love trying out their newly-invented-edible-creatures. I just love trying anything new, particularly FOOD!
Because when I look at the Mother's Day menu, I know I'm gonna miss out a lot of exotic stuffs again!
which is :( :( :( and :) :) :)

I want Monkey Roll, I want Naruto Maki, I want Volcano Roll, I want baked scallop.................. even a simple plate of yakiudon can satisfy my taste buds now. Hmmmm...

Fortnightly event, shall we?

If a wonderful breakfast can lighten my entire week and with the great companion I have, what's more could I ask for?

See! Big smiles on everyone's face!

Never ending.
Sweet Poison - the cake to die for.

Happiness :)

Oops I'm in a very good mood to post with heaps of photos! Half of my Saturday is gone, but I am so indescribably blissful. Slowly I'm creeping nearer to the definition of "life".
